30 Jan African-Caribbean people and Mental health – Draft| Rhea Thorpe

Explanatory Paragraph:  Mental health in the black community is a taboo subject and tends to be overlooked, or maybe substituted for different reasons e.g. education, jobs or relationships instead of the problem of mental health. As a member of the black community, I want to bring light to mental health issues and factors by researching why mental health in the black community is overlooked or even shunned, why some families choose to ignore the signs if a mental illness, why the courts and police referring patients instead of families. I’ll be interviewing mental health experts from the highest effected areas in London, talking to top charities who are bring awareness within London and people who have mental illness. My project will consist of mini audio pieces throughout my article to give a personal feel to the information; each audio piece will be 2 to 3 minutes long. My article will be a journalistic piece showing various information and points. My article will consist of quotes from various resources in the mental health sector. I will also use infographics to illustrate the facts and figures of mental health in London and different communities e.g. Asian, White and Black. My intended audience will be the youth and young adults ( from 15-30) . I want to target this age bracket because they don't have enough representation of mental health especially in the African - Caribbean community.
