10 AUG BRENTWOOD’S £7M RENOVATION FOR KING GEORGE’S PLAYING FIELDS

Last year Brentwood Borough Council approved a £7m renovation scheme for its local park, King George’s Playing Fields . The work will include a new adventure play area and splash pad, a pavilion, café, changing facilities and a sensory room which is set to be completed by late summer.

Brentwood Borough Council Leader, Cllr Chris Hossack said; “The scheme has started and the facilities that will be available offer something for everyone with the Splash Pad a particular favourite for all those who enjoyed the old paddling pools.

“This is a much-loved park and our residents and visitors speak of King George’s Playing Fields with great fondness across all generations. Many have played there themselves and now enjoy spending time there with their grandchildren.”

With the building work underway, Brentwood Borough Council Leader Cllr Chris Hossak and Chair of Community and Health Cllr Cliff Poppy invited residents to an event on Wednesday 2nd June to further inform the community and give an insight into what the new range of facilities will look like.

Business Development Manager at Alliance Leisure, Ruth Ripsher said: “We are absolutely delighted to be involved in this exciting project. There is an ever-growing importance in parks and green spaces to the health and wellbeing of local communities.

“This development will see an investment in local spaces for local residents resulting in new and improved facilities.”

Cllr Hossack added; “King George’s Play Fields will be the jewel in the crown for the borough’s play areas and open spaces and follows the refurbishment of our play areas over the last few years under our Leisure Strategy.

“I am delighted that Alliance Leisure has come up with such an accessible, friendly and diverse scheme and look forward to seeing it come to fruition over the coming months.”

However, this is not the only play area receiving a ‘revamp’, Brentwood Borough Council posted on their Facebook page that several other parks would be receiving a make-over as part of the Playing Scheme.

**River Road Play Park new £150,000 toddler area.

** Warley Playing Fields new £290,000 play equipment.

** Courage Playing Fields £90,000 makeover.

**Hutton Recreation £400,000 refurbishment.

Lots of residents are over the moon with the Playing Scheme, Elaine Gerrard commented via Facebook ‘ I think what they are doing for the kids is fantastic.

“They will have a brilliant time and have happy memories to look back on.”

Unfortunately, not all residents are happy about this change as it looks as though some are concerned about the environmental impact of this renovation.

Linda Payne commented via Facebook “What a shame ruining a good park- and mature oak trees have been cut down.”

Helen Port added to Linda’s comment “What a waste of our money. Our pavements and roads need mending first…. Its absolutely ridiculous.”
