Georgina Blackwell – Website Submission

18 Jun Georgina Blackwell – Website Submission

I decided to create a very minimalistic portfolio design for my website, www.georginablackwell.com, so that potential employers can easily access all areas of my website. When choosing the colour scheme, I decided to stick to a simple black and white design; this ensures that my website looks professional. To show my personality and creativity, I chose to use an animation on the home page, which immediately opens when accessing my website.

Website Homepage

For my website, I decided to choose the theme UKIYO, as I liked the simplicity and elegance of the theme. I personalised it to work with what I wanted to showcase on my website. My homepage displays two animations, the first saying “Hi, my name is Georgie. I am a freelance journalist.” The second animation edits itself from “Welcome to my portfolio”, to “Welcome to my website”, to “welcome to me”. The top left hand side showcases my logo, which is present throughout the entire website, and on the top right hand side you can see the menu.

Audio-visual Page – Personal Projects

Under my audiovisual menu, there are three different sections; published video, published audio and personal projects. The published video displays my presenting work, and the published audio displays my radio work.

The personal projects page, which I have shown in the screenshot, shows some of the best YouTube videos I have made, as well as my podcast. I chose to keep a very simple design. This way, it highlights my work, and doesn’t draw attention away from it. I included this section in my website to show off my broadcast journalism skills, as this is an area of journalism I am very interested in.

Print Page – Published Print

My print section has a drop-down menu with the pages; Published Print and Personal Print. Dropped under personal print is a custom link to my Final Project which I included to display my skills within the field of investigative journalism.

The published print page, which is displayed in the screenshot above, displays my published articles. The page is split into three sections: ACES UK, JLDN London and Women in Jazz Media. Under each section, I have shown some of the work that I have done for all of these publications – when clicking on each article, it would take you directly to the websites.

I chose to put these on my website as it shows my employers that I have a lot of experience when it comes to writing.

I again chose a simplistic page design, so that nothing would draw the attention away from my work, and therefore the page solely focuses on my writing skills.

CV Page

One of the next pages I have displayed in my menu is the CV page, this shows my Curriculum Vitae. On the page, I have decided to include some widgets, which display my social media accounts as well as my email. I thought these were appropriate for this page as my CV has my socials listed. So, rather than employers having to search for them, they simply click the logos and are taken straight to the social media pages.

This is a very important page, as it enables potential employers to gather all the information they need about me through my website. This immediately shows them whether I am appropriate for certain roles. It highlights my education, my work experience, and my skill set.

About/Contact Page

Georgina Blackwell about/contact page

The final page on my menu is the ‘about / contact’ page. It begins with a picture of myself, as well as a small description explaining my journalistic interests, about my degree and where I am based. I decided to put the ‘about me’ and ‘contact’ on the same page because you are introduced to me and then able to immediately contact me, which seems to fit perfectly together.

Although maintaining a simple design for this page, as the rest of my website does, I decided to add a widget showing my social media accounts and my email (the same as shown on my CV page). I felt this widget was appropriate on this page for similar reasons to the contact, as you are able to learn a small bit about me, and then you can discover more by progressing to my social media accounts.
