Initial plan:

My submission is a data journalism piece, with a mixture of multimedia mediums included. Focused on the novel Coronavirus outbreak I’m looking at how it has affected our every day lives and some of the numbers behind it.

The thinking behind doing this was that it’s incredibly relevant to all of our lives at the moment and fascinating at the same time.

Research

Data wise, it’s rich. With lots of datasets on the internet at the moment, there are many to choose from. However one of the main ones I’ve used for accurate data has been: http://www.euro.who.int/en/health-topics/health-emergencies/coronavirus-covid-19

I’ve also gathered information from the WHO website, as this is one of the most reliable sources out there at the moment in regards to recent information, advice and statistics.

Intended Execution and Audience

I’ve intended to make the piece visually stimulating to look at while at the same time maintaining a good level of information. I have made a few infographics which I have included throughout as well as a few dynamic backgrounds to keep it interesting as I believe it’s a good way of presenting information. I have also tried to add in updates to the situation as I’ve gone along, such as what the government is doing to combat it and progress with the virus, just how a conventional news feature may read covering the same topic.

The audience is wide because it affects us all, so anybody should hopefully be able to get something from it.

Sources and Interviews

At the moment I have a number of sources listed at the bottom of my piece. There are a few however I’m yet to include so no doubt the list will grow slightly between this draft version and my final. As well as this I have also included a couple of interviews which I have conducted.

One with a manager at a Sainsbury’s local shop in Wandsworth Town and one with a local business owner to see the effects of the outbreak on two different businesses.

I also have plans for an interview with an NHS worker as well as another local tradesman.
