Aimeegabay.com

24 Apr Aimeegabay.com

I chose to create a portfolio website that would showcase my best work and demonstrate my competencies. Placed high on my CV, right under my name, my website is a portal that demonstrates to potential employers evidence of my skills and abilities. With a focus on editorial work, I have included all of my best pieces, including links to published work on other sites. As a journalist, my focus is on environmental topics, including wildlife conservation, climate change and activism. I have made sure to emphasise this interest throughout.

Aims

  • Highlight editorial and writing skills (specifically those relating to my journalistic interests)
    • I decided to go for a landing page that would immediately showcase my work.
    • The items on my menu, including a drop-down for smoother navigation, have been selected in order to lead visitors to more stories, the series I have created for my final project and a journalism section listing all my published work, including articles from my current internship.
  • Keep it minimalistic and professional
    • The basic design layout and focus on typography was selected purposely to ensure my work and writing are the main event.
  • Build a personal brand
    • Chose to simply use my full name for my URL (aimeegabay.com).
  • Plug social media accounts
    • At the bottom of  every page there are icons leading to my social accounts and at the bottom of my homepage and about page you can find my Twitter feed.
  • Evidence of digital proficiency
    • I built my site myself, highlighting some of the software skills listed on my CV (WordPress, SEO, basic coding).
  • Friendly navigation on all devices
    • Multiple device optimisation was made a priority given the increase of mobile phones being used to read, etc.
  • Highlight multi-skill
    • Wanted to demonstrate other multimedia skills such as photography.
  • Contact page for easy outreach
    • The contact page features a simple form in case someone would like to reach out.
