The annual Christmas by the River market is back, in London Bridge City, for the sixth year in a row. Christmas by the River returns to illuminate London Bridge City, from November 26, 2019 to January, 5 2020, as London’s prettiest riverside market.

The role I had during the making of this VT was reporting and I also wrote my script for the two PTCs and the voiceover. Then, I went to the location with Miryam, who was in charge of the camera, I found people to interview for the vox pops and I talked to the interviewee, Charlie Langhorne, that Seyi the researcher, had found for us. After that, I also recorded the voiceover and helped Mahira with the editing. The last member of our group Ameera, was in charge of writing the news article this week.

Instagram bans ‘cosmetic surgery’ filters

In an attempt to prioritize users’ well-being, Instagram recently announced its decision to ban Plastic-Surgery-Effect face filters. Starting October 23 the filters which alter the appearance by showing you what you would look like with fuller lips and a sleeker nose will not be available on the platform anymore. This decision has come from the fact that the famous social media platform noticed that those types of filters can create a significant disconnect between the brain the body image. Doctors began noticing this impact, which has been named “Snapchat Dysmorphia”, in 2018 when more young patients started to ask for procedures that would make them look like the filtered versions of themselves. A recent psychological study show evidence that girls and women who spend a lot of time on social media are more likely to consider undergoing a cosmetic procedure. But is banning those filters the key to the problem?

JLDN reporter Juliana Onetti asked Marianna Botti, a regular Instagram user, her opinion on this radical decision.

Broadcast on JLDN Radio Show on October 25th, 2019

On the morning of the live show, when I was looking at the news I saw this story about Instagram banning the “plastic-surgery face filters” so I thought it could be interesting for the audience we target, as they are students. Then I was looking for someone to interview, it needed to be a regular Instagram user so that they would know what was going on. I went to UAL university talked to some students, and then I found Marianna Botti who accepted to talk to me because she had an opinion on the subject. Then I came back to the newsroom, edited it and it went live on the radio show.
