A thief who tried to steal a bicycle using an angle grinder, claims it was a case of mistaken identity.

Noel Anderson unemployed ,aged 22, from Augustus road ,London ,pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to stealing the bike from outside Marylebone Station.

During the trial , on the 24th of October 2019 ,Mr. Anderson’s legal team told the judge he thought the bike belonged to his ex girlfriend and it was a bike that he used to own and wanted to get it back.

The court was told the offence happened on the 19th october 2019 , and the bicycle was worth £ 200 , Anderson also caused £ 60 worth of damage by using an angle grinder to cut through the lock. He was caught after a witness saw him carrying out the theft .

The defendant commited the crime whilst already being on bail for previous convictions for cannabis use, the prosecution told the court .

Mr. Anderson is a father of two children, aged 2 years and 9 months who were previously in his custody up until his arrest.

Mr Anderson didnt give any statements in the court.

While on bail he was required to report to his probation team, as the judge heard it was thought he might be a flight risk.

The court was told the defandant has a history of matters of dishonesty. The judge decided to reconvene the case later on during the day , after a discussion between Mr Anderson and his probation officer.

The case continues.
