06 Dec Hayes woman in court over child GBH charge – Oscar Bevis court report
A 24-year-old woman from Hayes, was today in court over a charge of GBH with intent, after her 6-month-old son was found with a broken arm in their home in West London.
The 24-year-old, who for legal reasons cannot be identified, has been charged with malicious wounding causing grievous bodily harm with intent. She also faces a charge of assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting or abandoning a child causing unnecessary suffering.
The Police were called to a residential area of Hayes at 9:30pm on March 19th last year, after a phone-call described in court as ‘distressing’. The minor was found with a double-fracture and several deep bruises.
When giving evidence to the courtroom today, Dr Dabas, the man who treated the child at Ealing Hospital, said that it was ‘near-on impossible’ to sustain such injuries through a non-intentional break.
The defendant was supported by a mental health worker, who spoke several times on her behalf.
Prosecutor, Saeed Raulia, said the offence of malicious wounding could only be heard at a crown court.
Franco Strange, the defence lawyer, said his client had suggested she would take a not guilty plea to all charges. The defendant was bailed to appear at Harrow Crown Court by Uxbridge Magistrates.
