Date of broadcast: November 15th, 2019

Headline: LGBTQ+ Festival brings arts to East London

Studio Cue, presented by Georgina Blackwell:

Next up on the show, we look at what aims to connect the LGBTQ+ community with the creative industry. ‘Fringe! Queer Film and Arts Fest’ showcases an array of activities such as movie nights, poetry nights, and workshops – as well as giving an opportunity for queer film-makers to share their work.

I went to the opening night of the ‘Fringe! Film Festival’ in Dalston, to see why the event is so important for the LGBTQ+ community.

Roles:

When choosing roles, I filmed the coverage and Georgie reported and researched. Prior to the event, we learned that the weeks live show would be LGBT themed; we discussed possible topics, but found nothing that sparked our interest. However, we spoke to Steph Bless, the Elephant Studios technician, who informed us of ‘Fringe! Queer Film and Arts Fest’, and put us in contact with the festivals Head of Programme, Muffin Hicks.

Before travelling to the venue, we prepared questions to ask Muffin, as well as points of conversation for those we spoke to as vox pops. We also brought the detachable light that connects where the transmitter is, because we were aware we could be filming in dark areas, and wanted our VT to look as professional as possible.

When we arrived at the Rio Cinema, our location, Georgie and I discussed different GV’s we wanted to include, and ensured we got an array of wide, mid and close-up shots. For our expert interview, I re-arranged the background so it appeared more pleasing on camera, and also focused the lens on Muffin, thus making the audience aware she is the most important thing in the shot. We also collaborated on the piece to camera together.

To conclude, I directed the VT, and we collaborated on both the article and the piece to camera. Georgie edited the package, wrote the lead in for the live show, and presented.
