A man who fled to Algeria for 9 months to avoid a jail sentence is finally beginning a prison term today.

 

50-year-old Ali Nechat, who is currently homeless, pleaded guilty to assault in November last year, but left the UK before he could serve his sentence.

 

Today he cried out in court, as he received a custodial sentence of 54 weeks.
