07 Nov Goals are Discussed at Lambeth’s First Conference.

The area a short walk away from Lambeth.

Goals for the local communities of Lambeth were discussed at their first conference on the 16th October.

Stakeholders from across the borough attended the conference and suggested different ways the future of Lambeth can be improved, as well as being able to hear the new borough goals from others and how they can collaborate to improve living there.

The biggest challenge highlighted in this conference in Lambeth is the re housing affordability, with the cost of housing alone already above the benefit cap.

An average 3 bedroom house’s rent in the Lambeth area is currently at £495 a week, whilst the benefit cap is in fact £442 which is also including other housing costs.

There are also over 30,000 people on the council waiting list, with only 930 lettings last year.

In regards to this, Lambeth’s Labour council member, Jack Hopkins, commented: “We shouldn’t be holding back, we should continue to persevere until all of Lambeth’s residents have the same opportunities.”

Jacqui Dyer, the president of the mental health foundation also said: “We want to make Lambeth a place where people want to live, work and invest.”

Although there are big challenges for the improvement of the Lambeth residents lifestyles, Adam Lent, the director of the new local government network, said: “Councils are getting better at using community assets and this trend needs to continue”.

Council members of Lambeth and across the borough are confident that they have commitments in mind that can fulfill the needs of the area’s residents after the first conference.
