Whitehall blocked off.

A string of Extinction Rebellion protests to combat climate change have shut down busy roadways in Central London affecting businesses and traffic.

The protest is centred around Trafalgar Square where there is a large congregation of people holding picket signs, dancing and singing, along with tents pitched in the road.

This event has closed off parts of Northumberland Avenue, The Mall, Strand, Cockspur Street and Whitehall to the Palace of Westminster, with no car access.

Delivery people were walking for blocks with deliveries on pallet trucks to get them to their destination.

Local businesses have been affected by the congestion, causing for less business, and long commutes.

Ricky, the shop keeper at Lambert Souvenirs, said, “business has gone quiet now.”

He said, “At least 50% is gone” since the beginning of the protest.

About the protest Ricky said, “The cause is okay, the cause is a right cause, but it’s very inconvenient for all of us, because today I came twenty minutes late.”

He said, “today there was no bus at all.”

Protesters have an explaination for why this protest is on such a large scale.

About the scale of the protest, a female protester said, “We’ve got no choice now. It’s really serious, we’ve got to do something. So what else can people do than just get to the streets?”
