February 4th – Voice training with Vanessa

Francisca and I had a voice training session with Vanessa in the radio studio.

This was our first time doing voice training this year. We listened back to our voice overs and understood what we could improve on. For me, this was emphasising certain words and keeping a big amount of breath until the end of the announcement. We practiced with radio news bulletins.

Thursday 7th February – Press Review Sofa Presenter

On this day I was the sofa presenter for the live show – we focused on press reviews.

We interviewed the guest reporters, one of which was James Middleton and discussed the newspaper front pages. We discussed topics such as the weather, Brexit and airport closures.

If we would have done this a second time, I think we could have improved by purchasing the newspapers and holding them up as we discussed each story.

February 11th – Audiograms

On this Thursday session we learnt the process of making an audiogram using the the headliner app. I made a one minute audiogram relating to my final project, I think with practice and research these could be really helpful for a social media audience.

February 25th – Voice training with Vanessa

In this session we were voice training whilst on camera. Francisca, Leanne, James and I has a joint session in which we imitated reporting live from Westminster. We each took turns in roles of studio reporter, on location reporter, auto cue controller and production.

When taking on the role of studio reporter, we were each presented with some breaking news, we then had to incorporate this into our broadcast. We also made conversations with the reporter who was on location.

I could have improved by sitting still when presented, as I was in a spinny chair when practicing I was moving quite a bit on camera, but with some practice I stopped this.

11th March – Podcasts

During this week, we created and aired our own podcasts.

I teamed up with Francisca, Remeka, Saf and Leanne to discuss the importance and challenges that come with internships when studying at university. I really liked the way that this came out. However, to improve we could have practiced to make sure we didn’t speak over each other as much, and also added sound effects.

18th March – Sofa Presenter

On the 18th March, we had a live news show day. On this occasion I was a sofa presented alongside Remeka. I really enjoyed this role. Some improvement which I think could have been done was more reactions to stories and incorporating more emotion onto the set. We did decide to try and do this mid-broadcast as we noticed there wasn’t any reactions, so towards the end of the show we improved on this a lot.

I felt like me and Remeka had a good vibe and were able to bounce off each other’s on-air energy.

1st April – Music journalism in Streatham

On the 1st April we went along to a live music session which was held by music platform, Beneath The Surface.

I took on the role of helping out with the video footage. When the artists first arrived to perform, Francisca and I worked together to capture them entering the premises from multiple angles. I also helped to set up the cameras in which there were three filming the entire live session.

When recording, I offered to help with the camera which was focused on the backing singers. I changed the angles a few times throughout the filming. Communication was a key focus in this activity as we had to make sure we all had the same parts recorded and that the lighting looked the same throughout.

29th April – Symposium

On this Thursday we had our symposium, we all presented our final projects to the first and second years.

I spoke about the challenges I faced throughout my filming, as well as opportunities that came from it. I showed three minutes of my project (the introduction) and I also showed a minute of a Noisey documentary which was my main inspiration.

Now focusing on an increase of streams when musical artists die.

With the recent deaths of XXXtentacion, Mac Miller and Nipsey Hussle statistics have shown increases of up to 2000% in an artists streams following their deaths. With this in mind, I wanted to write an article exploring the rise in sales, streams and support when an artist dies. I will explore whether the cause of death effects this whilst looking at the above three artists in particular. Cadet died in a car crash. Nipsey Hussle died after being shot six times. XXXtentacion died in a robbery.

Mac Miller – 970% increase

XXX – ____

Nipsey died on Sunday – between the Sunday and Monday he received streams increased by 1773%

Further ideas and references for statistics 30/03/2019

Hussle averaged close to 2 million audio streams before his death, but on Sunday he earned 10 million audio streams and 57 million on Monday. His video streams jumped from 900,000 to 9.7 million on the day he died. – quote from foxla.com

Comparing Cause of Death 08/04/2019

Nipsey Hussle death not self inflicted – most streams, did the most for his community in comparison to Mac Miller and XXXTent.

Mac Miller – Self inflicted death? Lean mix caused a lot of deaths recently and the awareness of this is higher than ever.

XXXTentacion – Was awaiting charged for domestic violence against his then pregnant girlfriend least rise in streams – people were taking about this when he died.
