12 May Workbook Interactive- George Timberlake
Workbook – Interactive Journalism
January 28th – Voice training
January 30th – News writing workshop
January 31st – Newsroom refresher
We produced a live show for radio, where Olivia and I were the main studio presenters, just as a refresher. We wrote our own scripts and chose stories on the day, we had studio guests and had discussions on each topic such as the film about Fyre Festival and the new Ted Bundy film.
February 4th – Voice Training
I had voice training with Vanessa and Olivia in the radio studio. We recorded our voices, reading a news script and learnt about changing voices for different story subjects. I learnt about having authority and adding colour to my voice. Vanessa said sometimes my words are lost as I get quieter at the end of words, she taught me how to defeat this by going up on with pitch and volume at the end of the word.
February 13th- Competition entries presentations
We were given some inspiration for our competition entries and some suggestions of what competitions we can enter and viewed some of the previous entries
February 14th – Audiograms
We learnt about audiograms this week, using the app Headliner. This is good as they are used on social media and can be used to pretty much promote anything, they are also good for teasing content and giving an insight into what to expect. I produced a 1 minute audiogram that was teasing content of my journalism project on dementia care.
February 18th – Mobile Journalism
We were tasked to go out and get suggestions of what could be improved around the uni, using our mobiles as the cameras. Using mobiles as a device is being increasingly popular with editing apps readily available it means news is spread faster with more of a professional look with it.
February 20th – Competition entry
I presented the RTS awards to the class and showed previous winners and how to enter this years awards
February 28th – Mobile audio
I did a live phone in on the radio show about the buzz surrounding LSBUs student elections. Michael was advising me on really going into detail about what I was seeing to give a clear picture to listeners. Not having a script and few notes with facts made me really describe where I was
March 6th – Women’s day discussion panel
I helped out at the womens day discussion panel show, in recording the whole event using 3 cameras and interviewing people that were on the panel. Covering an event is hard and having so much footage was difficult to deal with, but it worked and it was a success
March 7th – Women’s Day show
I produced and presented content for our live show on the Women’s day panel discussion, I edited interviews of people that were on the panel into a 5 minute clip for our show and also presented the show on the sofa
March 18th – Assessed News Day
This week was an assessed news day, for this Delina and I went to Guys and St Thomas Hospital to go and view a peice of artwork installed in memory of a girl who had saved many peoples lives. We went down and got some GVs that were going to go over someone in the studio. We filmed it on our phone and edited it back in the studio into a package. It worked well and gave context in the script. I then presented the live radio show, it went really well. As we didn’t write a formal script it made us ad lib more making it more natural.
March 21st – Podcasts
We created our own podcasts, Delina, Barbara and I created a podcast called the Twentysomething, in which in this pilot episode we discussed the expectations of growing up. This went well as we are all friends so it made way for just a chat between us, which made an informal style which was nice to listen back to.
April 1st – AI
This week we learnt about artificial intelligence and news. Having news come through AI is something thats becoming more prevalent in households, so its changing and shaping the way news is consumed
April – Symposium
This week we did our symposium, I presented my project fully and spoke about what it was about and the main challenge I faced. If I were to do it again I would prepare more as I didn’t have much time
