Work Book Shola

13 May Work Book Shola

28/1

This week was a brief introduction to the module, We were given an overview of what to expect over the next few weeks. I was very pleased to hear we would focus on voice training in the coming session. I struggle with presenting and believed this could help me overcome this. We touched on presentation skills and voice training, we were taught key stretches and tricks to help with breathing. With Rebecca, we jumped into competition submissions, and certain criteria we would need to look for to submit. On Thursday we ran our first Radio show of the year and live show to get back into the swing of things.

This week I had a group voice training session with Pascal and Charlie ran by Vanessa. I was super nervous at first, however, it turned out to be super fun and helpful. We were given tasks and phrases to help with breathing techniques and pronunciation. I always think back to this session and the key skills I learnt and try to use them when needed. Vanessa was impressed with all of our attempts, she said to me that I need to project more. We continued to work on competition entries on Wednesday, I changed my mind many times. Thursday we ran another live show.

I already completed my voice training the week before, so I took the Monday to work on my Journalism Project.  On Thursday, Micheal has already shown me in my project meeting how to create audiograms, so I spent the lesson perfecting my one I was originally going to submit alongside my submission.

Unfortunately, I missed Monday’s lesson this week on mobile Journalism as I was ill. Which is such a shame as it sounds very interesting and right up my street. On Thursday we completed the NSS forms and embarked on the treasure hunt around London. This was super fun to be out of the newsroom with everyone. Even if my team did lose!

I chose my competition and the subject I would be doing it on, however, this changed over time. Thursday I did not attend the shorthand class as I was late due to a meeting for a project outside of University. However, I made it back for the afternoon.

I had the week off due to projects outside of the university, I told each lecturer why.

This week classes were stopped early due to absences.

Monday was our assessed News Day. I and Olivia worked on a news package for the live radio show. We reached out to a man on twitter who had created a short film on London’s Fire Brigade that was no longer and wanted to pay credit and educate people on the history.  We got permission to use his clip, he was also very helpful and answered a few questions for us. Everything ran very smoothly. Thursday we learnt about podcast and Delina and Barbara started their ‘Twenty Something’ podcast which George featured on.

25/3

We heard from John Lubbock from Wikimedia showing us how to edit, submit and challenge posts on Wikipedia. It was very insightful and something I had never even thought of before. I joined Delina and Barbara on their 2nd episode of ‘Twenty Something’ it was super fun!

1/4

Monday’s lesson was not on. Wednesday I did not attend as it was prep and I decided to do so from home. Thursday we learnt everything AI and how its shaping and changing news as we know it.

EASTER BREAK  – Changed my mind on my whole competition, and started from scratch. It was a nightmare giving me only 2/3 weeks to complete it.

29/4

Heard from Anna Codrea-Rado, a freelance Journalist. I really enjoyed this and it answered a lot of my questions, especially with how to approach journalists. We were giving a guide/ short powerpoint one everything we need to present our project ready for the symposium.

The DREADED SYMPOSIUM. This was a really horrible experience for me, having social anxiety and showcasing your project you worked really hard on in front of a large group of strangers was horrible for me. I didn’t feel relaxed and I messed up my whole presentation, leaving me feeling very upset. This is something I for sure need to work on, even if I find it extremely hard and terrifying. It was a shame I could show people what I had worked very hard on. Seeing everyone else’s work was so lovely and everyone did so well APART FROM ME!

Preparing for the end of year show, me and pascal are presenters and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 6th!
