Thomson foundation young journalist award – 100 word

11 May Thomson foundation young journalist award – 100 word

I came across the ‘Thomson foundation young journalist award’, I wanted to be a part of this competition as I felt like they were showcasing important topics through their competition which were never spoken about before.

I’ve written a 1000-word article on the topic of feminism and how it is perceived and limited to an extent. I have discussed how Muslim women who wear hijab are still feminists even though they are seen oppressed in the eyes of society, especially many western countries. My article is not limited to a particular audience, as I believe this is a very important subject, through which anyone can learn about.

The competitions requirements are that the stories are revelatory, prompt public debate and have led to, or have the potential to lead to, positive change in society, which I believe this story is, as it is focusing on different values of different cultures and how one can still be a feminist no matter how they are dressed or what they believe in.
