The piece of content that I chose to produce for this award entry was a written article outlining the work and ethics that Mencap cover. The award entry requirement was to produce an 800-1000 word essay covering the importance of learning disabilities and Mencap’s role in how to deal with the issue effectively. A way of educating others of the work Mencap do and how it might help those who are struggling with a learning disability to advise them on ways to get support and overcome a small milestone. as well as motivating people to read and look further into the work that the company produces.

 

What is a learning disability and how Mencap can help deal with it

A learning disability is a disorder, which is commonly known to be identified in a Childs early stages. It is classified as a delay in understanding, it is more difficult for a child with a learning disability to comprehend functions such as reading, writing, speaking and listening. Around a billion people around the world suffer from a learning disability that is atoms 15% of the population of the world. Mencap provides people with forms of support to help disabled people integrate with society, it aims to provide a positive outlook on life for those who are suffering from learning difficulties. Additionally, they aim to create a wider platform and increase awareness for others.

Furthermore, Mencap contributes towards young people as it tries to provide them with the support which they require, to flourish in the outside world. Mencap overall aim it to allocate positions in society for those which require the assistance. A learning disability is not a fault in an individuals capacity of motivation or intelligence though many people in society may confuse may find confusion between the two concepts someone with a learning disability is no lesser than anyone without it. It merely means that it is just a bit more difficult to understand the first time around it may take a few explanations or even a different method of approach. This does not mean people with learning disabilities are any less knowledgable in fact most are equally as smart an everyone else.

Paying attention to the symptoms of a learning disability are key milestones in order to understanding if the individual may have a problem in leading up to this disorder. Early diagnosis is vital to ensure the child gets the best help provided. It is often known to have occurred at a young age a child may suffer in school amount peers and not know the condition that they may be in. This may show in school work such as poor handwriting, errors in grammar and punctuation or even in speech. Learning how to comprehend these symptoms at an early age may just lead for better educational development and make it easier for the child to pick up on tasks and correct the struggle that they may be going through.

Mencap helps those with learning disabilities to overcome such tasks by providing support to people who don’t have the ability to do so. The learning disability helpline is set up for those who wish to seek advice and information that may help support people, It is accustomed to an individual need by providing support In your area which may be suitable to you. They aim to provide care and support ensuring a persons wellbeing.

Mencap’s purpose through this is to gain equality and values for people with disabilities to feel more empowered and that they have a voice that is being listened to, to challenge those individuals to take a step out of their comfort zone and reach their targets and goals in life that they aspire. They aim to adapt the minds of society today and the attitudes towards learning disabilities and bring about a positive change. Impacting those lives of people with disabilities and those around them so that they may fit in society as equals and have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

Encouraging people with a disability to motivate them in knowing that they can do exactly what anyone else can and that it should not stop them but in fact, encourage them more knowing that they had to try just as hard as anyone else in achieving their goals. Mencap have supported individuals in making a difference in people with a disability and their lifestyle challenging those individuals to believe that they deserve the right to have a fair treatment just as anyone else would.

To celebrate their achievements and milestones in their life with the help of Mencap who’s ultimate vision is to see those people succeed and overpower their fears and worry’s andante concerns they may have. Mencap aims to tackle this issue and deliver improving results. With the help of volunteers and staff to deliver the best help and care they may be able to provide.

Mencap now has a total of over 400 organisations with a range of multiple organisations set up across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Providing information online through the phone as well as being able to personally volunteer to help support individuals with disabilities. To provide the correct care for people improving all aspects of comprehension to the individual and disability and how working together they may be able to achieve results working through these difficulties. Providing quality support ensuring that each individual gets the nourishing assistance that they require. Focusing on their attributes and improving each difficulty they may face step by step.
