THE IDENTITY CRISIS OF SECOND GENERATION IMMIGRANTS

by Delina Petiros

Is it possible for someone not to know where they belong? Is a passport enough to make us feel citizens of a country? Can we be citizens of a country we’ve never been to?

In today’s society we constantly learn about the migration process, causes and consequences, but rarely attend to their lives after integration. There is one other category in particular we don’t often hear about from media and other organisations: the second generation immigrants. Those are children who are born in the country their parents have migrated to or got there at a very young age. My story focuses on their identity crisis thorn between the cultures of their country of birth and their parents one.
