Me Too and working women

Hannah: Script writing and filming plan, filming, editing, research

Louis: Presenter, part film

Izzy: absent

Yasser: part film, lower thirds creation

This week, I decided on the topic of how Me Too affects working class women and those on low income as I felt it’s an area of the movement that is often overlooked. My research began with deciding on whether or not this problem really existed, and after reading a wealth of articles from journalists in the US and the UK it became apparent this was very much a poignant issue globally. I wrote the script out and decided where was best to film, the locations I split and filmed between Brixton village, the Feminist library in Waterloo and some buildings near the University to illustrate the different levels of wealth the VT discusses. I recorded the voice overs with Louis, and after this he went to the tate and collected some relevant B-roll for the voiceovers, and Yasser was briefly present with me in the feminist library. As they failed to film what was planned whilst I was at work, I had to film most of the VT last minute on the day, then edit it, whilst also being director of the live show the same day. I sourced both interviews for our footage. Sarah was a girl I didn’t know who responded to me on instagram and who I skyped, whereas Emma is someone I know from social media who makes inclusive “boob pots” to promote different body types. I also edited all of the footage, the blurring of Sarah’s face took hours to master but youtube tutorials helped me massively. Yasser created two of the lower thirds we needed for the clip. To avoid potential legal issues I removed Harvey Weinstein’s name from the ending of our VT where Louis said “it’s forced monsters like Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby to face the music.” as Bill Cosby has been convicted of his offences, Weinstein is yet to stand trial and this could be seen as slanderous.

Radio – The 1922 Committee, November 16th

This was quite a chaotic day in parliament, and Beth and I did a package on the 1922 committee amid the letters of no confidence being submitted quite publicly in protest to Theresa May’s draft Brexit deal. We co-wrote the script, and split the speech half and half, however I edited everything together and removed the audio from Jack Dart talking about the deal, who was a guest speaker on the live show the previous day. As well as researching the 1922 committee so that we knew what we were talking about, I was closely following the story minute by minute during the day to look out for any major breakthroughs, we were hoping that the magic number of 48 letters would have been reached with enough time to edit this into the audio, but this didn’t happen unfortunately. I found the audio of Theresa May from IRN and uploaded it onto Audacity, chopping and shortening her words so that they fit our 2 minutes or less time constraint.
