Jessie Dunn VT and radio submission

14 Dec Jessie Dunn VT and radio submission

Are this year’s top Christmas toys student budget friendly?

Our reporters went out to investigate the pressure that Christmas brings to students and whether this year’s top toys will be within in their student budget.

For this VT I had the role of presenter. As a group, we all started researching the event on the Monday. I was mainly looking into the prices of toys from the previous years. Gabe and I then used the Tuesday to go out and film the vox pops for our piece. We headed to the student union bar to find our target audience. We had a great reception a lot of people wanted to speak to us and told us how much they really do struggle with their spendings at Christmas time. I wrote the questions to ask and then interviewed students about their Christmas spending. I then attended the Christmas toys event with Aimee and Gabe, I filmed the two piece to camera and interviewed the expert. Both myself and Gabe also came up with questions for the expert at the event because we weren’t expecting to have an interview with someone that could discuss the student and toy element however this gave us advantage because his answers fitted perfectly within our piece. Me and Aimee also made sure we had some social media content, she took some photos whilst Gabe and I were filming.  I then recorded the voice over whilst we were at the event to be able to get some background noise in the VT. Aimee was the overall editor wrote the script and did most of the organising; getting us passes to the event etc. Gabe filmed and edited. Meshanda then wrote the written piece once the VT had been put together.

Partying students in Bristol face £100 fines

Students at the University of Bristol have faced fines of up to £100 for keeping their neighbours awake with noise.

For the first radio show I had the role of on the day reporter. Oscar and I were partnered up to create a package on a recent story about students from the University of Bristol that were facing fines from keeping their neighbours awake. I researched the story and once I had all the information I wrote the questions for the Vox pops. After I had written the questions I sent these to on the day reporter Oscar and he went out and interviewed people, whilst I wrote the rest of the script. I then recorded the script. Oscar returned with two vox pops, he said he had struggled to get people to talk to him and so he recorded his own opinion as well. Being under a time pressure we did not have time to go back out and re record them. I then edited the whole piece together and exported it all on time for the radio show. From doing the radio shows I have since learnt techniques that help to get Vox pops and interviews and after using Oscars voice we were then told by Michael to not do this in the future and learnt that it is not professional to use someone from the class. However, this was a good learning experience to have during the first week of the radio shows and also taught me how to work under pressure and made me realise the time constraints that I had to work under in the future.
