Edible Insects

UK supermarkets could be now stocking insects such as crickets, with Sainsbury’s being the first by stocking Eat Grubs BBQ bugs in 250 of their stores from November 2018. We went to find out more by speaking to Marina Massamba from Planet Organic and more

For this VT, I took the role of projects manager – as it was the first time, we were all working together and I was aware that there had been problems within groups individually and collectively. I created a group for communication; making sure everyone was motivated and ready to help each other, even  outside of their roles if needs be.

Hannah had the idea of doing our VT on ‘edible insects’, therefore naturally it made sense for her to do the research, whilst she also volunteered to do the script for Louis PTC as he was happy to present. My main role was editor, I put the package together on Adobe Premiere having the creative freedom to do as I please,  but making sure the package includes certain elements so it delivers the required message to our student audience.  I also created the VFX on After Effects.

My secondary role was film, with myself capturing GVs (including a solo trip to the local pet shop to get close ups of insects) and Hannah capturing the interviews. We all worked together to capture the vox pop at the meat shop. I also recorded and edited the voiceover using Adobe Audition, as Louis was unable to.  Izzy wanted to do the written piece, which included research elements.

I felt everyone stepped up to create this, our first VT together, and pushed themselves further especially when faced with challenges, including myself.

Radio Bulletins presented by myself at 1330 22/11/2018:

·    Government policy and security services accused of failing to learn from previous terror attacks by group of MPs

·    Draft agreement regarding post-Brexit ties by Theresa May

·    Matthew Hedges jailed for life in UAE, accused of spying – family deny it, wife believes UK government put their interest first before his right to freedom

·    (Follow up of earlier breaking news story) Women being treated after reports of nurse being stabbed by patient, in the grounds of hospital in Ayr

Ananda and I alternated every half hour throughout the afternoon as bulletins presenters, to present the Hourly Bulletins and News Headlines. I worked alongside the radio editor Bethany on inception to write, edit and later illustrate with audio clips, constantly updating bulletins. We had a new challenge, as it was our first live cross-platform show in one day, with the live YouTube show and radio show being aired on Thursday (whereas in the past, the YouTube show was on Thursday and Fridays were specifically for radio)
