‘Zombie Knife’ Attacker Walks Free

29 Nov ‘Zombie Knife’ Attacker Walks Free

The ‘Zombie Knife’ attacker has been allowed to walk free from court today as the Judge hands out a suspended sentence.

Joshua Gardner, 18, took to the streets of Croydon in May and attempted to smash a drivers’ side car window before moving round to the passenger side and reaching in to the vehicle with the knife, causing the driver to flee. Gardner did not follow the driver. The footage from dash-cameras of surrounding vehicles went viral earlier this year.

Gardner admitted to charges of affray and possession an offensive weapon but denied that he had intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Anuja Dhir QC came to the conclusion of giving Gardner a two year suspended sentence, a nine-month curfew between 7pm and 7am, and 150 hours of community service.

Gardner will not go to prison if he does not commit another crime within the next two years.

Judge Dhir decided to set Gardner free as she believes he is a “prospect of rehabilitation” – something backed up by the decision to also assign Gardner the obligation to complete 20 days of rehabilitation.

Gardner had shown remorse throughout the trial and regretted “the pain he has put his family through.”
