29 Nov Man denies suppling Cannabis to friend whilst on trial for knife crime

Kuany El-Jack, 23, from Camden, is accused of supplying his co-defendant, Khalid Latif, 18, with Cannabis whilst on trial for knife crime, the Inner London Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor, Varinder Hayre, told the court that the incident took place on April 18, at 11:30am in Blackfriars Crown Court.

El-Jack was sent to the court holding room to be searched by security, where Latif was already waiting for their case to begin.

Hayre said that El-Jack didn’t produce all items to security, before pulling Cannabis out of his right pocket and handing it to Latif.

Security guard, Kevin Harrison, acting as a witness for the prosecution, said: “I tried to get the item from El-Jack after finding a bump in his pocket, but he kept shuffling closer to Latif.

“He then pushed his arm towards Latif and gripped his hand. But I did not see anything passed at the time.”

Fellow security guard, Emmanuel Mann, also acting as a prosecution witness, said: “I saw El-Jack make contact with Latif and pass him the object. We then took Latif to the cells and found Cannabis on him.”

Michael Newport, defending, said: “My client admits that he had Cannabis on him which he produced to security when being searched, but Latif then took it from his hand.”

The trial continues tomorrow.
