29 Nov Man charged following threatening behaviour on the London Underground

A man has appeared in City of London Magistrates Court following charges of threatening and abusive language on the London underground.

Ravi Bhatia, aged 42, was traveling on the Jubilee line at London Bridge Station. The incident took place on the tube platform around six O’clock on the 20th June 2018. The accuser, Katalina Selnar, reported him to the transport for London security following the encounter with Bhatia.

Selnar stated that the defendant started shouting at her claiming that she had pushed passed him on the platform and then proceeded to shout, ‘you stupid b****’ and continued after she had walked away. Mrs Selnar told the court there was more than enough room for the both of them on the platform when she walked past and his behaviour was unacceptable and frightening.

Mr Bhatia pleaded not guilty stating that she did indeed barge past him and he claims that he only said ‘have you no manners’ and she started the situation herself.

Both appeared in court to give evidence and after a brief hearing Mr Bhatia was found guilty of the crime. He was sentenced to pay £220 in damages and court fees as well as a 12 month suspended sentence.
