27 Nov Illegal bird trapper fined for using rat glue to capture wild birds

A 39-year old man from Gravesend, named as Julius Gadzor, has been fined after admitting to illegally trapping wild birds when appearing at Medway Magistrates Court on Monday 12th November.

The man’s home was searched when the RSPB received information that wild birds were being illegally caught in the man’s garden. When searched, numerous trapping equipment including rat glue was found in the man’s property.

The search warrant was followed through on 14th June where officers from the Rural Task Force inspected his Gravesend home and finding the trapping equipment. He was interviewed later in the week and admitted to catching and trapping wild birds.

After appearing in court, Julius was found guilty and given a 28 day curfew order to be kept at his home between 7pm-7am, as well as being fined £385 in total costs.

One of the coordinators of the warrant, Sergeant Darren Walshaw, stated: “Bird trapping is not only illegal, it is incredibly cruel. We are committed to working with our partner agencies to put these criminals, who illegally trap birds for their own financial gain, before the court.”

Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981, it’s illegal and a punishable crime to catch/trap wild birds in England and Wales.
