Criminal Gang sentenced for 1 million pound insurance scam

29 Nov Criminal Gang sentenced for 1 million pound insurance scam

It’s the 8thof November 2018, I am reporting from the Old Bailey in central London. The alleged criminal gang who made almost 1 million pounds from submitting fake insurance claims for restaurants by saying they had burst water mains, have now been sentenced. It is claimed that they had leased properties for businesses’ that did not exist, deliberately smashed the water pipes to falsify claims. The businesses had never been open for trade and this elaborate scheme saw the gang gain thousands of pounds.

The gang operated the scams between 2012 to 2016 with 15 successful claims totalling £944,206. They went as far as changing their names on deed poll, using different geographic locations, not using the same loss adjuster twice to avoid detection. They were caught when insurance investigators in Lincolnshire had discovered that a bar without a license to sell alcohol had not been trading at the time of the claim.

The 5 men were jailed for a total of 14 years. Kashif Bhatti, 35, from London, was sentenced to two years in prison. Ramone Carty, 36, from London, was sentenced to three years in prison. Jurelle Hayles, 30, was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years. Nyron Hughes, 35, was sentenced to four years in prison and Tarquinn Orgill, 34, was sentenced to five years in prison.
