15 May News editor – Week 7 & 8

When: Week 7 starting from 12th March
I was the news editor for week 8. We had a live show for homelessness and the show went very well. Throughout the two weeks, I made sure that I communicated with each VT group to check everything was on schedule. on the actual live show day, I started the day by holding an editorial meeting to check what everyone had done and if we had enough content for the show. Since the show was themed around homelessness, i did have some backup VT ideas that we could use in case we didn’t have enough content on the day. One group didn’t have a VT so I sent people who didn’t have any roles until the show out to the big issue to get a VT. I finished editing my VT with lucy and then started writing the script. I communicated with the presenters to check that they were comfortable with the wording used etc. The script was done on time and I held another editorial meeting before our run-through so everyone knew what was going on. We had a run-through around 2:30 where I could see how the script translated and made the changes necessary. Overall I think I did do a great job as news editor as we did have some problems but I overcame them. I had never been the news editor before so I was quite worried I wouldn’t do well but I think I did the best I could do.
