Hannah Turner Role Critique – Director

15 May Hannah Turner Role Critique – Director

I took on the role of director for two live shows. This was my first time having such an important role and I found it came with a lot of pressure. I enjoyed being in control of what people see i.e. setting up the cameras and changing the shots during the show. The first show I was director for was a 30-minute special with a live audience, as this was my first time being director, I had a lot to learn and do that day. I set up different shots so we could switch to see the audience during the live show and had help from people who had previously been director. The following week, I received constructive criticism on some camera angles. I addressed this by moving the set around and playing with the cameras so the shots could be even better that week. Being a director means being a leader and I feel by the second show I had shown good leadership skills. I did this by chasing people up and not being afraid to ask people to do things so the show could run smoothly. I learned a lot about the production side to the show during my time as director and feel I gained valuable skills by taking on the role as it was very much outside my comfort zone.
