Written piece – 16/11/2017 – taken from when I was On the Day reporter for JLDN:

A new popup event at LSBU is helping students learn the benefits and techniques behind starting their own businesses, reports Sidney Stanford

Student, staff and alumni of London South Bank University joined forces to create a one day pop up market in the student union in partnership with the student enterprise team. The market contained multiple stalls and tables that were selling products and services created exclusively by people connected to the university.

This event is one of many as part of the nationwide ‘Global Entrepreneurship Week’ which is a week every year across the county that helps people find the benefits of entrepreneurship and how to get started in the world of business.  The University is big on celebrating ‘GEW’ following last year’s announcement that LSBU is a leading university nationwide for entrepreneurship as well as being number one for employment prospects.

Carl Thomas is the man who brought this idea to life and ran the pop-up market at South Bank’s SU, and he was very keen to boast the large number of different products the students were selling at the market he put together.  He said that: “we try to embed enterprise and skills set and an entrepreneurial mind set across the university.”

A former student himself, Thomas also told us that: “the  GEW that has taken place over this past week across the whole country really showcases some of the entrepreneurial endeavours of a lot of the students and staff.”

The market sold a wide range of different products ranging from cosmetics, clothing and homeware essentials. This was not all the market had to offer as they also had stands promoting experiences, sports and charities such as Autism Awareness group ‘Care Trade’ offering a raffle with all proceeds being donated.

Igloos around London that you can dine in.

Step aside Christmas markets, the new festive trend sweeping the capital city by storm is igloos that you can hire our for meals or parties. Sidney Stanford reports:

For this VT, I was originally intending just to be the camera man but things within the group changed so I ended up being the main presenter for the VT. The VT talks about the new festive igloos people can hire out around the city. My roles included helping plan the production of the VT, liaising with team members for appropriate meeting points and times,  writing and recording all voice over and pieces to camera.

Shola reads out the news bulletins on todays edition of JLDN. Stay tuned for Brexit, Israel and Trump!

For this radio show on the 1st and 8th December, I was appointed the role of Assistant News Editor. Roles included researching and writing up with the editor all the content going out in the show and the 30 minute updates, helping out in the studio with the presenter whist live on air, making sure the presenter is there on time with a completed script and sourcing and downloading news clips and things to be played out live on air. For this particular show, I was writing with Nicola and checking news updates regularly so I wouldn’t miss a scoop. I also found the excerpt of Teresa May from her Brexit speech that was played out live.
