14 Dec JLDN live show 01/12/17 Production

JLDN Radio 01_12_17

This week we spoke about topics including President Trump supporting controversial tweets from the far right Britain First and the significant amount of fast food shops around schools in poorer areas. In addition the programme follows a live discussion about the World Cup Draw happening that day, as two members of the LSBU football team join us in the studio. After the discussion we talk about the unmissable event of Prince Harry’s engagement and first appearance with his fiancee Meghan Markle and a slightly offensive T-shirt Walmart is selling in America. It clearly sports a negative message for journalists all around the world, which is why one of our reporters went out to ask people about their opinions on offensive slogans. The date being the 1st December I thought it was a good idea to finish the show with a Christmas story. The charity ONE CAN launched “reverse advent calendars”. The idea is to to put an item in a box each day up to Christmas day and bring it to one of their charity shops where homeless people can pick the boxes up. Due to the fact that the charity only operates outside of London at the moment our reporters went out and interviewed people about the possibility of the calendar working in the city.

In my role as a producer of the show I worked along side my assistant Elle-Mae Smith and the presenters Maddie Binns and Olivia Kemp. On the day reporters that day were, Isla Russel,  Alice Heather, Safia Bennington, Fransisca Da Silva, Charlie Wetton, James Middelton, Moona Popal and Jacob Dickinson.

It’s well known that President Trump doesn’t hold back publishing his opinions and likes to cause controversy. These tweets from his side went especially viral, so I chose to air that package first. The fast food package came second as it hits close to home. Even though we aren’t school kids anymore, we all know how easy it is to access a chip shop instead of walking all the way to Tesco for a healthier option. The discussion got the most time of the show as it was the main big thing happening on the day and it felt nice to switch from recorded material to live in the middle of the show. As a more light hearted piece after a heated discussion the piece about Prince Harry sounded like a good idea because even if people won’t admit it: everyone follows the royals in some sort of way.

After that the Walmart piece took it’s place, quite frankly not last of the bunch because of christmas approaching. Since the shirt is sold in the USA, the whole story is the least relevant to London students and listeners, but still important to publicise. As Christmas month officially started, it was obvious to end the show on a merry note, as well as reminding people that there are a lot of people out there that need help to make their Christmas a little happier.

All the packages had to be in by 2:30 and they were about 1:15 to 1:20 minutes long. The discussion lasted for about 2:30 and the show ended with a slightly rushed good bye at 15:12.
