13 Dec Man sentenced to life imprisonment at The Old Bailey for killing the mother of his child after argument over childcare payments

Man senteced to life, do to at least 21 years for pleading guilty to murder

Mark Morris, 39 of Croydon, was convicted of murder for admitting to stabbing his ex-girlfriend and mother of his daughter to death on May 25th this year whilst she was walking home from school with her children.

The Old Bailey heard Morris approached Ms Day and her friend from behind, ran towards her with a kitchen knife and stabbed her continuously, causing instant death. He then fled the scene and rang 999 to notify them that Ms Day was in danger. Upon that he stated “I could not f****** stop myself”

Emma Day and Mark Morris had been in an eight-year relationship which ended in 2016. Morris had repeatedly threatened to kill the victim if she did not terminate the £2000 – a year child support maintenance costs. The defendant claimed in court he was ‘over £6000 in debt and forcing him to pay child support would result in him becoming homeless’.

Previous to the stabbing, Morris had researched ways online to kill himself and told his daughter she would not see him again.

Emma had obtained a non-molestation order against Morris after she received numerous abusive messages and threats to kill her. Unfortunately, the order expired a month before the homicide.

In sentencing Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC said the child now “associates everything with death and dying”.

“That of course is because of the actions of her own father,”
