The Salesman Screening

15 May The Salesman Screening

After the Muslim ban that Trump did, the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi decided to boycott the Oscars and doing a free screening of his movie in Leicester Square. We went down to see what was going on.

Before going into details in the process that I had to do in order to produce this VT, it’s fundamental to explain where I got the idea from.

For this particular story, I used the PR website. When I saw this event taking place, I thought it would be interesting to cover it.

Because it was related to art (over beat) and at the same time it was focusing on a really delicate issue goin on in that period.

So before being able to actually go in central London and film, I had to research the topic, the director and the movie.

It was important to know his background, in order to understand his choice to not go to the Oscars as a protest.

Once I had all the information I needed, I was able to write a script for the presenter to introduce the topic  and the reason why we decided to explore it more in details.

So we went down to Trafalgar square and filmed our intro to the topic, and since it was a free screening we were able to attend it and listen to all the speech that different people gave on the day.

Because of this we got pretty much all the materials we needed to produce the video.

The only slightly difficult part was to get people’s PV on the issue.

Luckily for us we spoke to a lady who knew many people who were demonstrating and would be willing to speak in front of the camera.

So once we filmed also the interviews, we were good to go home and I could start editing it.

I started to edit it over the weekend, the only thing we needed to do was to record the voice over on Monday to add as outro.

In order to edit I had to use Audition for the voice-over, After Effects for the lower thirds I had to use in the VT and Premiere to actually edit the clips of the VT.

One thing I would do differently is using a better mic.
