Production Role: Presenter

15 May Production Role: Presenter

For four of the seven shows we produced, I had the role of presenter.

The main challenge of the presenter is to breath life into the show; give it some interactivity and character. I feel that Nevan and I, between us, managed to keep the shows engaging and enjoyable.

Aside from the actual presenting, the main duty is rewriting the script so it flows naturally for us to read on the autocue. We also need to be able to come off script and remove the effect that the show is automated for the audience.

I quickly learned that the interaction between the presenters is just as important as interaction to the camera–it gives the show authenticity. Reacting to VTs and my co-presenter–sometimes non-verbally–was the main thing I worked on as I grew into the role.

My main feedback reflected this: attempt to make it more dynamic and inject energy into the process. We were obviously tentative at first, but in retrospect could have attempted more interesting things on camera rather than staying rooted to a sofa position and reading from the autocue.

I do feel that I performed well in my role, and as I grew more confident I was telling jokes, sprinkling confetti and flipping pancakes on screen.

Below is an example of the latter!
