Week 11:

Since Monday was a bank holiday, we came in to Uni May 2nd, the day of the live show. This week we decided to make a sports roundup, since the previous weekend had a lot of sports happenings in it (for example boxing and F1). We filmed the VT at my house in Stratford (1st of May) at 2pm.. Hoping to do another piece to camera (previous one being the John Inverdale interview), I joined Matt to do the roundup. Following Monique’s suggestion, we used the VT’s audio as our radio piece and focused on filming the VT.

Since Monday was a bank holiday, the Tuesday coming back was hectic. Nevan and me made and finished the script right before the dry run and the live stream, and had to work under pressure. My job was to decide the order of the VT’s and I also wrote the small introductions of them to the script. I also helped with the mics and the soundboard, and showed Bridget and Matt how to use them. Since I was writing the script, Matt had to edit the VT. I gave him a hand couple of times, but since the time was tight, he had to figure it out himself. I also made lower thirds to the politics team when I had a break and they didn’t. The live show had few hiccups, but overall it was a very teaching experience. I learned to work fast and efficiently, while also having fun.

The next day (Wednesday) we listened the radio show go live in the newsroom. After that, we had an editorial meeting in which we discussed the next week’s show. I got a permission to switch beats for the last live show, and since I am very interested in the refugee crisis, I decided to go to politics and help Ellie and Imad out with their beat.
