Bermondsey reacts to the Snap Election

11 May Bermondsey reacts to the Snap Election

In a shock move, Prime Minister Theresa May announced there will be a snap election this June. We spoke to residents and interviewed a popular local candidate for the Bermondsey and Old Southwark seat, who was in parliament on the day of the announcement.

I researched to find out when the last snap election took place, who to interview and what general views would be relevant to the story. I made contact with Bermondsey and Old Southwark Labour and Liberal Democrat parties, to see if an interview would be possible. I received correspondence via email that MP Neil Coyle, would be happy to speak to me at his MP surgery. I scripted questions and personally interviewed Neil about his thoughts on the snap election. I also had a conversation with his campaign manager, to grasp how a campaign works and if there was any further information needed for the VT. I recorded a general view from outside of Neil Coyle’s office. I spoke to Sir Simon Hughes’ manager over the phone to arrange an interview, but he was unfortunately unavailable. I filmed the piece to camera, which I scripted. I got two residents to take part in vox pops, and scripted the questions asked. The final vox pop, I interviewed and scripted questions myself, as none of my patch were available. I had to get a friend to film the vox pop. I went into the campaign office to find out if I could take a GV of volunteers, and filmed the GV myself. I scripted each of the vox pops, and made sure they would fit with the GVs. I edited the entire VT myself. The most challenging part was adding the lower third to the package during editing, as I had to research online the best way of doing this.
