15 May A Syrian Refugee’s story – Audio

A story of what it is like to live in a country that is at war.

This piece was a very serious piece to edit and upload. Since I changed groups for the last week to help the Politics group out, this audio piece was very different than the ones I edited for my own beat. I was the editor of this piece, as well as a voice over person. I also helped out writing the script and researching the matter. With this piece it seemed right that the tone would be more serious and that there shouldn’t be any music to dominate or persuade feelings. Because of the length of the audio and the seriousness, I decided to add different sound effects to the background to break the sequences. These effects, for example, marching sounds, crowd cheers, plane noises etc. were a good illustrative pieces. I tried to make it as gently as I could, without making it too radical or suggestive. The goal was to make the listener understand, but still be able to make their own conclusions.

Although I enjoyed editing this piece, there are couple of things I would improve. Although I tried, some of the levels were still off.  The whole interview was almost an half an hour long and was filled with good, strong information. It was hard to pack the essential information in to a small couple of minutes long audio, and a lot of the issues lost their background stories or meanings. As well, I would have liked to have some neutral music to pace the interview. However, I am glad that I got the opportunity to hear this story and to edit it. I like that the piece is both serious and impressive, but isn’t too boring. I’m proud of the progress I’ve done with audition and I think this piece shows it well.
