Week 8:

Since the live show that week (March 21st) was the one deciding if we got BJTC’s or not, this week’s live show was super stressful, for me at least. Since Matt and Nevan didn’t contact me or try to set up anything (or even answer my messages when needed), I had to take the matters on my own hands. However, since the boys were unavailable for most of the previous week. I rented out a camera and a mic and went out to do the VT for us. I filmed ‘5 tips of how to stay healthy in London’ in Stratford Olympic park. My friend, who was supposed to help me, pulled out the last minute, so I did the filming myself. I had few hiccups, for example, filming in Olympic park is frowned upon, and that the wind that day was horrendous, but I got the filming done. However, I had to re-record the audio later on, since the wind was so high you could not hear a thing, even when using a microphone.

Editing the video was a fun, although stressful, task. After syncing the audio with the video, I tried to make the video to look as effortless as possible adding music, text, slowed images and good transitions. Although it didn’t end up as well as I had hoped for, I was happy I got it done.

Following my VT filming (18th-19th) Matt came down to help me with the audio show. He suggested we would visit the Sports centre, since there was a mixed badminton game at 3 a clock (19th). I met Matt there and watched the game, getting some soundbites as well as multiple vox pops from the players. This was a fun experience and I made new friends and got to spend the Sunday afternoon with great people.

The following Monday, Matt and Nevan went out to get couple of more vox pops to fill the missing bits. While they edited the audio, I made the radio script to the Wednesday’s radio show, as well as had a say in the Tuesday’s script. This week I got to be the soundperson during the live show. This meant that my responsibilities included: making sure everyone got their mics on, that I could hear them, that the VT’s had voice and that the audio levels were alright. We also made our very first Skype live-interview, which was interesting. My job in that was to make sure that the Skype’s sound was heard as clearly as possible. During the dry runs and the real show on Tuesday, I learned a lot about the sound equipment and putting mics on people. Luckily, the soundboard on the live show is very much like the one in the radio room, so the job was very similar. I enjoyed the experience and it was good to expand my knowledge of audio work. After the live show, we ordered pizza, watched stand-up and just enjoyed each other’s companies.

The following day we also had our radio show, which was my last one. In the live show, we had our first guest and interviewed him about his new news app. However, we weren’t happy with how the show turned out, so we re-recorded it later on that Wednesday, just adding the interview in. Re-recording the show without Michael or anyone else giving us a hand, gave us a good learning experience. We got to choose how to operate the situation and make our own looking radio show. I enjoyed being in charge and we, as a team, got to spend a nice evening together.
