Week 2:

During the second week, we focused on video vox pops. Much like the first week, we had a lecture where we dug in to the art of vox pops and discussed how to get them look interesting, diverse and clear. We studied couple of clips and talked about different views, backgrounds and ideal settings (for example, not to film next to a surface that reflects).

Just like the previous week, we got to go outside and film vox pops with our phones. The subject was same as before, however now we had to consider the background, settings and finding a good angle. We also did a piece to camera. I paired with Daniela again and we had a lot of fun making our videos. However, people did not want to cooperate with us, most of them not wanting to be videoed. Still, we got couple of videos done and learned for example how to approach suitable people for interviews.

The next day (Tuesday) we edited our videos to neat couple minute packages. I found this exercise easier than audio’s, because at this point I had more experience with Premiere Pro and was more comfortable using it. Adding music, fades and texts was a lot of fun to me and I was proud of how efficiently I got the editing done (compared to the previous week).

During the afternoon, I got to try presenting and got some good tips about it. Working in front of the camera was not my favourite, but it was good to see how everything works for the future reference.

That Wednesday we focused on videos and how they are put together. We watched couple of VT’s and discussed them in class. We also had our first editorial meeting for the next weeks live show. We were assigned to beats (mine is sports) and we discussed what we would do for the next weeks show. After the editorial meeting, Michael came to teach us how to add lower thirds to our Valentines Day videos and how to work After Effects. We got to download the lower thirds package and work with it during the tutorial. This day was very insightful for video packages and making them. With Michael’s help, I learned how to make easy lower thirds and add them to vox pops.
