PUBLIC GET THEIR SAY ON PECKHAM RYE REGENERATION

There will be a drop in session on 12th January, 2016 held by the council to discuss Peckham Rye station’s future.

A drop in event will be held by the council on Thursday 12th on January at 3 Station Way to provide the latest updates on Peckham Rye’s regeneration.

The plans objective according to Southwark Council’s website to “transform the narrow, dimly lit passageways that lead to the station into a generous, vibrant square.”

The application was submitted in Late October 2015 by architects Landolt & Brown and was given complete approval by the Planning Committee on 1st March 2016.

The square will replace certain shops in the area on Blenheim Grove and Rye Lane near the entrance to the station’s passageway.

The conclusion reached by the Planning Committee was not one that was embraced by everybody. Eileen Conn, Coordinator of Peckham Vision said in her comments said that the plans have “totally different character from the existing building.”

However Cllr Peter John said that has said the plans are a “fantastic proposal that will provide a more openinviting retail area ,while remaining sympathetic to the historical buildings around it.”

The council is currently negotiating the purchase of the areas surrounding the site. If no agreement can be made the council will use it’s CPO to acquire areas of the site.
