Everyday News Website by Ellie-Louise Style

09 Jan Everyday News Website by Ellie-Louise Style

My online website is called Everyday News, and it’s main focus is to bring you all the current events that are happening in the world to smaller incidents that happen more locally. Here are five screenshots that I have taken of my website, and for each one I will explain why I have picked this area for special attention and my decisions behind it.

  1. The Homepage-All my social media icons are on the very top menu bar and then just underneath is my logo to brand my website, with a brief slogan to explain what of the website is about. Underneath that is my main navigation bar and a breaking news scroller. I have designed this page so the world news is the first thing you see, as it is the most important. Then as you scroll down the website you will find European, UK, Local news and so on. I have also included an events category, as I previously worked at an internship where I produced the work in this section, and I thought it would bring more traffic to my website if I included it.
  2. The footer-This is the footer to my website, as you can see there’s also another navigation bar at the top, just incase the visitor want to get back to something quickly. Just underneath I have the BBC RSS feed, and the KentOnline News RSS feed. This is so whoever visits my website will know instantly if there’s anymore breaking news whether global or local. Just next to this I have my most recent posts and more social media icons.
  3. Local news category-This is my local news category, as you can see it has two drop downs underneath it. I decided specifically to aim it at Kent and Sussex, as this is the area that I live in, so always know what’s going on. As you scroll down you have all the articles on the left side, while there’s also a right widget of random posts and a search bar.
  4. Video and audio category- This is my video and audio category, which contains documentaries and podcasts in which I have created over the past two years, as my aim is to eventually go into news journalism/broadcast journalism. I’ve made sure that each category follows the same layout (the content on the left and the widget on the right).
  5. Article example- This is an example of one of my articles, each article follows the same theme of having the photo across the top and then the writing underneath, and I have made sure it follows the same house style, including the stand first being in bold, while the by line is in a normal text. They also each have the widget bar on the right, showing random posts, advertisements and a search bar.
