In recent debates about improving mental health services for elderly people, the health secretary Jeremy Hunt stated that by 2020, under new government plans, dementia research, care and diagnosis in the UK will be the best in the world, reports Cindy Drabaviciute

Having attended a seminar with Steve Boddington who is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in the mental health of older people, I have found out that approximately 1 in 4 elderly people that experience significant common mental disorder lack psychological help.

Zoe Collier who works in a care home explains that dementia affects not only the elderly people, but also their family members.
